Sermon by Pastor Tynes: Sacrifice!
Scripture: I Cor 11: 23-26
Christ in this passage says that when we think about him we are to think about his sacrifice. It is interesting that he does not say think about his miracles or resurrection, but he says for us to think about his sacrifice. Christ identifies himself with a sacrifice.
In the Old Testament God instituted the sacrificial system through Moses. The reality of death and the blood that it took to atone for the sins of the people were always before the eyes of the people. God's message was clear. Our communion with him and with other is all about a sacrifice.
In the New Testament God takes on flesh and becomes the sacrifice. While the sin of humankind causes him to sacrifice God for everything else, the irony is that God sacrifices himself for our sin. Jesus is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.
If we are to identify with Christ we too must make a sacrifice (Luke 9:23; Rom 12:1,2). This truly demonstrates that we are yoked together with Jesus Christ. What are you willing to sacrifice for the cause of Jesus Christ?
